Around 100,000 West Papuan civilians have become internally displaced people since the escalation of armed conflict in 2018 according to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, March 1, 2022. Indonesian military operations which include aerial bombing of villages, burning houses and shooting innocent people, have been relentless as you can read in media reports, research articles, and on social media.
Thousands of internally displaced people are living in remote areas. Most are women and children. Recently 600 people died due to lack of food, water and shelter.
As occurred previously, thousands of West Papuans dispossessed of their land, are walking for weeks to seek refuge across the border in Papua New Guinea.
